Found. Trapped. Home. ❤️
After bond found nearly 5 miles from home as the crow flies, Flower is safe tonight thanks to an incredible community, dedicated partners, and a family who never gave up.
Flower escaped her fenced yard on 3/8 in an area where she was being confused with two other similar-looking loose dogs. Her last confirmed sighting was 3/13. I connected with the family on 3/20. With a newborn baby born on 3/4, their time was understandably limited, but their commitment never wavered. While we spoke, I created a flyer on our website and began sharing it across social media.
South of the last sighting lies a tremendous amount of wooded ground — endless places to hide. Amanda Chaffin immediately stepped up, searching Saturday and Sunday. Still no sightings.
Then Sunday evening at 5:30, the call came. A dog matching Flower’s description was sitting in the middle of a large field yet to be planted. Huskies… even half Huskies… are built for adventure. Time to roll.
When you need someone who will drop everything on a Sunday evening, Amy Kenney Coon of Topeka Lawrence Dog Trappers is that person. She was closest and immediately loaded up supplies and headed over. We confirmed it was Flower and set the trap.
Would she come to strangers? Not even for rotisserie chicken. Would she come to Mom? She knew Mom… but her guard was still up. Husky stubbornness on full display.
Flower settled into one of her safe spots on the east edge of the field and stayed there all night. Monday morning, the trap was refreshed with what every dog considers kryptonite — rotisserie chicken. Then we waited… on Flower’s schedule.
Eventually brunch won.
Flower circled the trap, carefully picking off the easy pieces outside. Then came the classic Hokey Pokey of trapping — one paw in, one paw out — stretching as far as possible to steal chicken while keeping her back feet safely outside.
She tested the trap. Tested it again. Laid beside it in protest.
Then finally… she committed.
One confident step forward… and straight into safety.
Because the trap had been hauled deep into the field, Dad and TPD Animal Control helped carry her out. From there, the only stop was home — and the reunion Mom had waited over two long weeks for.
Happy tears. Happy ending. Happy dog. 🐾
Thank you to everyone who shared posts, reported sightings, searched, prayed, and supported this effort. This is what community looks like. We truly cannot do this work without all of you.
Welcome home, Flower (Fleur).
You are officially grounded, young lady. 🐕✨
